This guide is part of our list of the best online casinos in Australia and compares each mobile payment method, with limits, withdrawals and security.
Can you pay by phone bill at Australian casinos?
No. Australia’s main mobile networks no longer let casinos or other outside companies charge purchases to your phone account. Telstra ended third-party Premium Direct Billing on 3 March 2018, and Optus stopped its Direct Carrier Billing service on 24 August 2018.
Most “pay by phone bill” casino lists are written for the UK, where licensed casinos still take phone bill deposits through services such as Boku. Those payments do not work with an Australian mobile number. Our guide to play now pay later casinos explains why phone bill and buy now pay later deposits disappeared.
How can you pay by phone at an online casino?
Four payment methods let Australians deposit from their phone in under a minute:
Crypto wallet apps work from a phone too: you scan the casino’s QR code and confirm the payment. See our guide to crypto casinos.
How do you deposit with your phone?
Depositing from your phone takes five steps with any of these methods:
- Open the casino in your mobile browser: offshore casinos run in Safari or Chrome. Real money casino apps are not available in the Australian App Store or Google Play.
- Go to the cashier: tap Deposit and choose Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayID or a voucher.
- Enter the amount in AUD: most casinos accept deposits from about A$10 to A$30.
- Confirm the payment: with Face ID, a fingerprint, your banking app or the voucher PIN.
- Check your balance: the deposit usually appears within a minute.
If your phone offers a casino app file to install outside the app store, do not install it. Play in the browser instead.
Which pay by phone method is best?
The best method depends on whether you want to withdraw with it:
- For deposits and withdrawals: PayID. You approve deposits in your banking app, and winnings come back to your bank in AUD at many casinos.
- For one-tap deposits on iPhone: Apple Pay, with a debit card in your wallet.
- For one-tap deposits on Android: Google Pay, with a debit card in your wallet.
- For privacy: Neosurf or Paysafecard, so the casino never sees your bank or card details.
Apple Pay, Google Pay and vouchers are deposit-only at most casinos, so add PayID, crypto or an e-wallet for cashing out. Our guide to casino payment methods compares every option.
What if your phone deposit is declined?
A declined phone payment almost always comes from your bank or card, not your phone. Check these four causes:
- Gambling block: you or your bank have turned on a block for gambling payments in the banking app.
- Credit card in the wallet: many Australian banks decline gambling on credit cards, also through Apple Pay and Google Pay.
- Daily limit: the card or transfer limit for the day has been reached.
- Method not offered: the casino does not accept that method from Australia, even if the logo is shown.
If a block is the reason, it is doing its job. Otherwise try PayID or a voucher instead.
Can you get a bonus when you pay by phone?
Usually yes, but some casinos exclude e-wallet and voucher deposits from welcome offers. Read the bonus terms for excluded payment methods and the minimum deposit before you pay. Our guide to casino bonuses explains wagering requirements.
Can you withdraw casino winnings to your phone?
Not to your phone bill or prepaid credit. Withdrawals go to a bank account, an e-wallet or a crypto wallet. PayID is the closest thing to “withdraw to your phone”: the money lands in your bank account and you see it in your banking app, often within minutes of the casino approving it.

What limits apply to phone payments?
Your bank and the casino set the limits, not your phone:
- Card limits: Apple Pay and Google Pay use the daily limits of the card in your wallet.
- Bank transfer limits: your bank’s daily transfer limit applies to PayID.
- Voucher limits: Paysafecard payments are capped at A$200 per payment, and Neosurf PINs go up to A$100 each.
- Casino limits: minimum and maximum deposits per method are shown in the cashier.
Use a debit card in Apple Pay and Google Pay. Many Australian banks block gambling on credit cards, and the block applies to cards in a phone wallet too.
Is it safe to pay by phone at a casino?
Paying from your phone is safer than typing card numbers into a casino cashier. Apple Pay and Google Pay share a token instead of your card number, PayID shows the payee’s name before you confirm, and vouchers share only a PIN.
The risks sit around the payment:
- Lost phone: keep a screen lock and biometric login on, because your phone now holds your payment methods.
- Fake casino apps: install nothing from a link the casino sends. Real money casino apps are not in the Australian app stores.
- Scam messages: texts or social media posts that push gambling sites and ask for PayID transfers are a common scam.

What are the pros and cons of paying by phone?
Are pay by phone casinos legal in Australia?
Casinos that accept Australians are offshore sites. The Interactive Gambling Act 2001 bans operators from offering online casino games to Australians, but playing is not an offence for you as a player. ACMA has blocked more than 1,800 illegal gambling websites. Our guide on whether online gambling is legal in Australia explains the rules.
How can you gamble responsibly on your phone?
A casino on your phone is always within reach, so set a deposit limit in your account before you play and turn off saved payment details in the cashier. Most major banks let you block gambling payments in their app, and BetStop does not cover offshore casinos, so use each casino’s own self-exclusion tool as well.
