This guide is part of our list of the best online casinos in Australia and compares every payment method that works for Australian players, with speeds, fees and limits.
Which payment methods can Australians use at online casinos?
Australians can use eight main payment methods at online casinos that accept them. They differ most in one thing: whether you can withdraw with them.
The withdrawal time starts when the casino approves your request, not when you click withdraw. Our list of fast payout casinos in Australia shows how long the approval itself took in our tests.
What is the fastest way to withdraw from an online casino?
PayID is the fastest way to get winnings into an Australian bank account, because the money arrives in AUD with no exchange in between. Crypto is just as fast to your wallet, but you still have to sell the coins on an exchange to reach your bank.
Three things decide how fast you really get paid:
- Verification: an unverified account waits for an ID check before the first payout.
- Approval: some casinos approve withdrawals automatically, others review each one by hand.
- Method: PayID, crypto and e-wallets arrive in minutes; a bank transfer takes days.
Which payment method should you choose?
The right method depends on what matters most to you. Use this as a starting point:
- Fast payouts in AUD: PayID, straight to your bank account.
- High limits and fast payouts: crypto, if you are comfortable with wallets and exchanges.
- Privacy at deposit: Neosurf or Paysafecard, so the casino never sees your bank details.
- A casino without PayID: an e-wallet such as eZeeWallet or MiFinity.
- Paying from your phone: Apple Pay or Google Pay with a debit card.
Whatever you deposit with, check the withdrawal list in the cashier before you pay. A deposit-only method means you need a second method to cash out.
Which payment methods work for deposits only?
Prepaid vouchers and phone wallets are usually deposit-only at casinos that accept Australians:
- Neosurf: a 10-character prepaid code. Australians buy it online from resellers such as Dundle and Recharge.com. Our guide on where to buy Neosurf online explains how.
- Paysafecard: a 16-digit prepaid code, also bought online in Australia.
- Apple Pay and Google Pay: they charge the card in your phone wallet, and few casinos pay winnings back to them.
Plan your withdrawal method before you deposit with one of these. Most players add PayID, crypto or an e-wallet for cashing out.
Can you use a credit card at an online casino?
Often not. Many Australian banks block gambling on credit cards automatically, including American Express, Bank of Queensland, Macquarie Bank, Suncorp and Virgin Money. Licensed Australian betting sites have also been banned from accepting credit cards, funds linked to a credit card and digital currency since 11 June 2024.
Offshore casinos sit outside that licence system, so some still show card logos in the cashier. A debit card or PayID is more reliable, and it means you only gamble with money you already have.
Which payment methods are not available to Australians?
Several methods you will see in overseas guides do not work for Australian players:
- Phone bill payments: Telstra and Optus stopped third-party phone bill charges in 2018. See our guide to play now pay later casinos.
- Afterpay, Zip and Klarna: these services exclude gambling or allow only pay now options.
- Interac, iDebit and InstaDebit: Canadian bank transfer services that need a Canadian bank account.
- Trustly Pay N Play: a European no-account system that is not offered at casinos that accept Australians.
Inclave also appears in some cashiers, but it is a login system, not a payment method.
What fees and limits should you expect?
Most casinos do not charge for deposits, but the payment method or your bank can. Check four numbers in the cashier before you pay:
- Minimum deposit: often A$10 to A$30, depending on the method. See our list of minimum deposit casinos.
- Minimum withdrawal: set per method and shown in the cashier.
- Maximum withdrawal: daily, weekly or monthly caps that can split a large win into several payments.
- Fees: network fees for crypto, wallet fees for e-wallets and reseller fees for vouchers bought online.
Your bank’s daily transfer limit also applies to PayID and bank transfers.
Do you need to verify your account to withdraw?
Usually yes, at least before the first withdrawal. Casinos check your ID and address to prevent fraud and money laundering, and they may ask again for a large withdrawal or a new payment method.
Withdraw to a method in your own name, and use the same method for deposits and withdrawals where you can. Mixing methods is a common reason for extra checks. Our guide to no verification casinos in Australia explains when checks are light and when they are not.
Are casino payments safe?
The payment methods themselves are safe; the risk is the casino and the scams around it. Check three things before your first deposit:
- The payee: with PayID, the name shown before you confirm should match the casino or its payment provider.
- The casino: look for a licence you can check and clear withdrawal terms. Our guide to safe online casinos in Australia shows how.
- The source: illegal gambling sites promoted on social media that ask for bank transfers are a common scam.
Are online casino payments legal in Australia?
Paying at an offshore casino is not an offence for you as a player. The Interactive Gambling Act 2001 bans operators from offering online casino games to Australians, and ACMA has blocked more than 1,800 illegal gambling websites. Banks can still decline payments to gambling sites. Our guide on whether online gambling is legal in Australia explains the rules.
How can you gamble responsibly?
Fast payment methods make it easy to deposit again, so set a deposit limit in your casino account before you play. Most major banks also let you block gambling payments in their app or by phone, and BetStop does not cover offshore casinos, so use each casino’s own self-exclusion tool as well.
